A complete room designed and styled for the Third Annual Interior Design Room Competition — a student competition, judged live against other student designers, built around one element from the Stevens Furniture showroom.

The challenge

Turn an empty competition booth into a room that stops people mid-aisle at a public home show — a student competition judged live against other student designers, and built to be walked into and felt, not just looked at.

The approach

Working from a single element out of the Stevens Furniture showroom, I went warm, collected and globally inspired: an antique Chinese altar console, a carved dragon, a silk kimono hung as art, layered patterned textiles and low lantern light — a room that read as lived-in and transporting rather than staged, built to be walked into rather than only looked at.
